Notes - Jib length 28 m
The Supertruck came along in 1979/80 and was a development trying to make a longer reach jib that was fully extending without using flys of manual extension. This used the standard internal system of two rams in the jib.

The Supertruck was to develop with the 30 then the 40 ton version. These all used a longer reach jib useing the standard internal system of two rams in the jib.

The Octag was the last heavy crane designed and built under the Coles name before it finally ceased trading in 1984. There was one last throw of the dice however for the Sunderland works the AT685 all terrain although badged Grove.

Notes - 27M Boom Grove/Coles.
Grove design built in Sunderland and design based on the COLES Ranger 520. Here being built in the main assembly shop at Sunderland. The first picture taken in 1968 shows the first Hydra 12 ton, the second in the 1986 the same assembly line now building the AT633. This also appears in the Husky/AT section but is shown here as an indication of the way coles truck cranes were moving under Grove.

Notes - When Grove took over they re-badged the Coles units they wanted to keep firstly as Grove Coles the just Grove. This was one of those units, obviously refurbished but they couldn’t get rid of the name on the back.

Although its badge is Grove, it is a pure Sunderland concept,design and manufacture, and numbers were sold into the UK and Europe. Sunderland was the only factory producing this concept of crane at the time.
The prefix TTstood for ’Truck Terrain’, which meant that it was basically a truck (T) crane which could traverse rough terrain,with selectable front wheel drive and all wheel steer. But it could not be chassis driven from the crane cab. For clarity :- (T)= Truck Crane. (TT)-TT865- Inverted AT- a truck crane which has rough terrain capabilities.

The leaflet shows the 6 wheel version of the crane as I have not found a leaflet of the 8 wheel one.

The current classification of cars was developed in the mid-1990s. Each class (German Klasse) designates the body type and market segment, for example: SL – Sport Leicht (“sporty, light” – roadster); CLK – Comfort-Leicht-Kurz (“comfortable, light, shortened” – a coupe of medium size); G – Geländewagen (SUV) and the like.
